Saleen and Ford Co: A Rich History
After the legendary Steve Saleen cut his teeth in racing, he created the Saleen Automotive brand to modify Ford Mustangs for the track. After the inception of Saleen Automotive, originally Saleen Autosport, it wasn’t long before Saleen began not only modifying Ford Mustangs aftermarket, but other Ford Models too. Enter the Sportruck. It’s a souped-up Ford F-150 backed by the racing pedigree of Steve Saleen, built by Saleen Automotive. The Sportruck is a vehicle engineered with absolute accuracy to be a practical yet speedy truck.
Black, Yellow, and White Label: What’s the Difference?
Every Sportruck is well beyond that of a simple XL standard Ford F-150 truck, but there are some key differences between the trucks.
Like the Saleen Mustangs sorted intoWhite Label,Yellow Label, andBlack Label, Saleen trucks are sorted into in order of their features. To clear things up right off the bat, all of the performance features are unlocked with the Sportruck Black Label. However, there are still excellent options in the White Label and Yellow Label. Despite differences, all Saleen Sportrucks have some form of Saleen’s innovative air management system. Aside from powertrain and performance, however, the vehicles are nearly identical inside and out; even the suspension systems are similar.
Sportruck: Powertrain and Performance
On the Black Label Sportruck, drivers get a choice from all available Saleen Sportruck powertrains. The 400 hp 5.0L V8 is available on the White Label, and the Supercharged 740 5.0L V8 is available on the Yellow Label Sportruck. There are smaller engines available too: the 400hp 3.5L six-cylinder EcoBoost engine for the White Label and the 450 hp 3.5L six-cylinder Saleen EcoBoost engine. Sportrucks come equipped with electronic stability control as well to ensure your starts are as clean as ever.
Sportruck: Exterior Features
The Sportruck is available as a two-door regular cab or four-door super cab model. Regardless of which cab size you choose, the Sportruck benefits from Saleen’s impeccable air management system. This allows for excellent aerodynamics, even in a vehicle like a truck! With carefully designed Saleen external parts, like the fender flares, available Saleen Power Hood, and Saleen Retractable Tonneau cover, you’ll hardly notice air catching as you cruise at high speeds.
Sportruck: Wheels
The Sportruck has upgraded wheels as well, with six-spoke 22” alloy wheels standard and available chrome and carbonite options; excellent performance is embedded in the core of the Sportruck.
Sportruck: Interior Features
Just like with the interior of the Ford F-150, you can link your phone to the infotainment screen regardless of which wireless carrier you use through bluetooth. That complements well all of the racing accouterment standard in the Sportruck, like the stitched leather seating with embroidered headrests, Saleen steering wheel, premium cloth floor mats, and serialized dash with Saleen gauge pods.
You’ll truly feel like you’re in a car with racing prowess when you step inside a Sportruck with premium materials appearing everywhere alongside top-of-the-line racing instruments.
Sportruck: Safety Features
Like the Ford F-150, the Sportruck comes standard with a variety of cutting-edge safety features to keep you and your family safe, whether you’re on a family drive or a high-speed adventure. To start, the rear-view camera hooked up to the infotainment screen allows for no worries when backing up. On top of that, there’s automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection. However, you’ll be without some optional features like adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring found on other Ford F-150 models, though we don’t think you’ll miss these non-essential features.
