Koenigsegg is known for making ultra-exclusive, fast yet luxurious cars, and the Regera plug-in hybrid definitely falls under that umbrella
Founded in the early 90s, Koenigsegg was all about speed, and it still is. Christian Von Koenigsegg, the founder, always dreamed of creating the greatest hypercar of all time, and with every new release, it seems the day isn’t too far away. From performance to aesthetics, Koenigsegg can give the big boys a run for its money, and the Koenigsegg Regera is one such car. It was first unveiled in 2015 at the Geneva Motor Show. With only 80 of these beauties ever manufactured, this limited-production plug-in hybrid hypercar is one of the fastest-accelerating hypercars ever made by Koenigsegg and it produces over 1,000 horses. If that isn’t impressive enough, it can also sprint from a stand-still to 60 mph in less than three seconds. When you take all of this into consideration, the name “Regera” is quite befitting as it translates to “to reign” in Swedish. The Regera was not only designed to be fast but also to be rather luxurious and comes with features that make this hypercar an absolute beast. 1 The Regera’s Design Is Based On The Koenigsegg Agera
The design for this luxury hypercar was based on the Koenigsegg Agera, but of course, there were modifications made to improve its look while keeping practicality in mind. Although the Regera has been in production since 2016, the recent models see no changes. The newer model also comes with a newly-designed “constellation” DRL system. Besides that, Koenigsegg made a few aerodynamic changes in the front and rear wings, giving the Regera a powerful yet elegant look. The body of the Koenigsegg Regera was broadened to make space for the battery within a safety cell. The Regera also comes with the world’s very first foldable top-mounted active rear wing.
2 It Is A Performance Beast
The Koenigsegg Regera comes equipped with one of the most impressive powertrains any car could ever have. Behind the passenger compartment lies a 5.9-liter V-8 twin-turbocharged along with three electric motors. With a set-up like that, the Koenigsegg Regera can churn out a stunning 1,500 horses. Along with that the Regera also makes use of the “Koenigsegg Direct Drive” system replacing the typical transmission system. The direct drive system works by directing all the power from the engine and the electric motor to the rear wheels, no wonder this hypercar is insanely powerful. In fact, from a stand-still position, the Koenigsegg Regera can accelerate to 62 mph in just 2.8 seconds.

3 The Koenigsegg Regera’s Unique Direct Drive System
As mentioned before, the Koenigsegg Regera does not come with any transmission, instead, Koenigsegg has plonked its Direct Drive System which houses all the necessary gears and controls them automatically. This eliminates the need for traditional gearboxes. The built-in paddle shifters are linked to the hydraulic coupling system and do not work like the traditional paddle shifters. When you “shift down”, the coupling system links the regenerative braking system, and “shifting up” means causing a slip in hydraulic coupling while boosting the RPM, thus increasing power. Additionally, there is no reverse gear, all you have to do is select “Reverse” and it uses the reverse current in electric motors after decoupling with the engine to go in a backward direction.
4 The Regera Also Has An Electric-Only Mode
The Koenigsegg Regera, as you know, is a plug-in hybrid and naturally comes with an all-electric mode. Unlike other hybrid hypercars like the LaFerrari, the Regera does not necessarily need a fuel engine to run. When driven at low speeds, the Regera’s hydraulic coupling system can detach itself from the hypercar’s drivetrain, thus enabling the all-electric mode. Once it reaches 30 mph, the entire system comes together again, giving you the blistering performance you wanted. To be fair, the all-electric mode only works when the car is kept under 30 mph, but it is still a cool feature, it could come in handy if you ever want to cruise around without using any fuel!

5 Great Handling Dynamics and Downforce
Apart from coming with a 7-figure price tag, the Koenigsegg Regera also comes with exceptional handling dynamics. The suspension featured in this hypercar is quite versatile and helps in improving the traction of the car. With hydraulic steering in place, the Regera offers a smooth ride with great feedback. Additionally, the foldable active rear wing and active front flaps not only help in making the car more aerodynamic but also help in increasing the downforce of the Regera. Koenigsegg has also included adaptive dampers with Ohlin shocks to further improve the grip of the car while offering a pleasant drive.
6 It Boasts A Luxurious Interior
The Koenigsegg Regera is not only a high-octane machine, but it is also quite grand and elegant. The interiors especially are magnificent. Koenigsegg didn’t cut any corners when it came to the interiors of the car. The Regera comes with seats made out of memory foam which is covered with leather, furthermore, the seats are power adjustable and come with up to eight options. To further add to it, the Regera comes with a number of features that are simply mind-blowing, for example, almost everything in this hypercar can be controlled via an app or a remote. It goes without saying, Koenigsegg is pushing the boundaries in making hypercars.

7 This Koenigsegg Has Unique Features
You should expect a lot of unique, creative, and yet practical features from this supercar. All the doors on the car can be operated with just a touch of a button, the Autoskin is the feature that uses hydraulics to open/close doors, giving you more control of the car. Additionally, the remote also comes with a feature called “Show-Mode”, it basically opens all the doors to display the Regera in all its glory. The interiors come with a 9-inch display with Wi-Fi connectivity and Apple CarPlay. Also, should you ever feel like recording your drive, the Koenigsegg Regera also comes with front and rear cameras integrated into it! This hypercar also has a remote update system which helps in running diagnostics to ensure your car is up-to-date with the latest software and systems.
8 It Comes With A Seven-Figure Price Tag
Of course, this hypercar costs a bomb. To start off with, this is a limited production hypercar with only 80 of these ever being made, the Koenigsegg Regera price starts at $1,900,000. Koenigsegg isn’t your regular car manufacturer, the Swedish automotive manufacturer only produces certain types of cars and makes them as exquisite as possible. Of course, the Koenigsegg Regera isn’t for your everyday joe, in fact, even people who can afford it can’t buy it unless they scour the used-car market, and even then it is pretty impossible as the older models have been sold out. There are a few Koenigsegg Regeras for sale on the used car market, but be ready to shell out a ton of money if you intend on buying it.

9 The Koenigsegg Regera Is A World-Record Holder
The Koenigsegg Regera’s speed and acceleration are scary in nature, and it broke the world record on September 23rd, 2019. The Koenigsegg Regera only needed 31.49 seconds to reach 249 mph (400 kph). Over a distance of 1,613.2 meters, the Regera managed to accelerate from 0 mph to 249 mph in just 22.87 seconds and gradually decelerated in 8.62 seconds, making it a combined total of 31.49 seconds. The record was previously held by the Koenigsegg Agera RS and the Regera managed to out-perform it by 1.8 seconds. Furthermore, the Koenigsegg Regera's top speed is 255 mph, making it one of the fastest cars ever made.
10 No Dearth Of Standard Safety Features
To begin with, crash testing a car like the Koenigsegg Regera can be quite expensive which is why they don’t. Yes, you read it right, Koenigsegg, typically does not crash test its cars. Instead, it makes use of a single carbon monocoque for crash tests. Additionally, the Koenigsegg Regera comes with standard safety features like airbags, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and front, and rearview cameras. For a car that costs over $1.5 million, safety features like adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, forward collision warning, and more are completely non-existent. You can find a lot more safety features in cars priced way less than the Regera.
