Bachelorette’s Rachel Lindsay, Bryan Abasolo’s Relationship Timeline (2024)

Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo fell in love on season 13 of The Bachelorette, but their relationship did not stand the test of time.

After meeting Lindsay on Nick Viall’s season 21 of The Bachelor, the attorney made history as the first Black Bachelorette in 2017. Her top two were quickly established as Abasolo, a Miami-based chiropractor, and Peter Kraus, a personal trainer from Wisconsin.

While Lindsay happily accepted Abasolo’s proposal during the August 2017 finale, she felt viewers didn’t see the whole story as her split from Kraus overshadowed the happy moment.

The Bachelor franchise does believe in happy endings — some people get an on-camera happy ending, some people get on off-camera happy ending, and some people get both,” she recalled in her Bachelorette season 14 finale blog for Us Weekly. “As for my happy ending, it was not demonstrated within the confines of your television screens, but I am living it every day in real life.”

The twosome proved any remaining critics wrong when they got married in Mexico in August 2019. They subsequently jetted off on a honeymoon in Greece.

Not long after their wedding, the couple confirmed to Us that they hope to start a family.

“We hope [to have kids] sooner rather than later. We’re not preventing it, but if we’re planning, in the next year,” Lindsay told Us in October 2019.

Abasolo added, “I’m going to be the easygoing dad. I want to be the playmate. [The baby will be] wrapped around my finger, absolutely. ‘Whatever you want.’”

After Lindsay's Extra interview with Chris Harrison made waves in early 2021, her husband said he was "disappointed" with the longtime Bachelor Nation host's behavior. "Chris Harrison is someone that I respected highly and I’m not gonna lie, I definitely lost respect for him after watching that interview," Abasolo said on his "Talking It Out" podcast in February 2021, standing up for his wife amid the backlash. "What he said was irresponsible. It was hurtful. It was just flat-out unacceptable."

The chiropractor took aim at "malicious" trolls following the "Higher Learning" podcast host's powerful New York Magazine op-ed, which was published in June 2021. Despite the ups and downs they've faced within the franchise, Abasolo wouldn't have done anything differently.

"Rachel just had like an x-factor," he said during an episode of his "Talking It Out" podcast. "She was a triple threat — brains, beauty, personality, great sense of humor. She was a professional. She had a career. Everything on paper was top notch. ... She keeps me on my toes [and] she challenges me to be a better man."

"I feel like it's been a long time, but then we really think about it, time has flown by as well," Abasolo told Us of his relationship, gushing over how much he and Lindsay have "grown" together since their Bachelorette season. "We have a new house, we have our dogs, kids are in our future as well. We just got a lot of great things going on. Our careers are flourishing, we're both in a good place."

July 2022

Lindsay shed light on her decision to keep her personal life out of the spotlight in a lengthy blog post. "I remember at the beginning of our relationship we found ourselves concerned about how we were acting in public and continuously felt the pressure to perform for social media because that is what the people wanted," she wrote. "It was miserable and we were slowly drifting away from the core of Bryan and Rachel and forming into the RnB narrative that that world created for us. We vowed to never do that again. So, when the days, weeks, and maybe even months go by without a social media post of Rachel and Bryan ... don't worry. We are good over here privately cherishing our love and building a future as one san[s] social media."

Lindsay explained why she and Abasolo have kept their relationship out of the public eye.

“We don’t put ourselves out there at all [except] maybe an anniversary or a holiday [post here and there], but I think I did that because people were so critical of us when we came off the show,” she explained on “The Viall Files” podcast. “I just [was like], ‘I want to keep this for ourselves’ and, you know, marriage has ups and downs, but you never know when we’re good or when we’re not because we never put it out there.”

May 2024

Court documents obtained by Us Weekly in May revealed Lindsay and Abasolo, who filed for divorce in January, were still living under the same roof.

In the documents, Abasolo described his and Rachel’s living situation as “awkward and strained.” He filed a motion requesting emergency spousal support to put down a deposit on a new residence and move out.

“I want to move out of our Family Residence as soon as possible, but maintaining our standard of living is not financially feasible at this time,” Abasolo stated in his motion. “I placed my career as a chiropractor on hold to move twice for Rachel’s career. These moves were detrimental to my chiropractic business, while Rachel’s income and success as a media personality skyrocketed.”

Lindsay has not responded to any of her ex’s recent claims. Us has reached out for comment.
